Insight is a project I've been working on since the summer of 2015.
I started this project when I met with one of my friends who I hadn't been able to visit during my last year of college, as I was extremely focused finishing college, and on The Rat Boy. When I saw him after graduation, he had lost his vision completely to macular degeneration over the previous year. We talked for a few hours, and he said something that had a deep impact on me, and that was that the one thing he missed most about being able to see was that he couldn't play games anymore. He told me he was in the middle of Xenoblade Chrnonicles for Wii when all this happened and he really enjoyed the graphics, and now he couldn't finish it.
I took it upon myself as a mission to use my skills I learned during that last year when he had lost his vision to give him a game that he could play. I still feel terrible about having been so distant when all this was happening, so I feel that it's the least I can do for him.
But as I've been working on this game, I realized it could be helpful to a lot of people, not just my friend. I feel that if any game I will ever make could ever be considered "important" in the grand scheme of things, it would be this one. I may make much bigger, more complicated games with amazing graphics and huge budgets in my life, but I feel nothing I make will do more good in the world than this game.
I'm designing this game with the abilities and limitations of those with full visual impairment in mind, but also so it would be fun and interesting for anyone who wants to play. But at the end of the day, this is just me making a game for my friend, other people will just be sharing in that experience.
